In the world, there exist
certain classics: the '67 Plymouth Fury, Paul Cezanne, Louis Armstrong,
Vermont in October, a nice ribeye steak. These things don't go out
of style. In that spirit, we interviewed hundreds of women to line
up ten classic dates that are guaranteed to bring home the romance
bacon.
1) Candlelight
dinner - Indisputable and timeless. Due to the inexplicably
powerful combination of candles, food, and wine, this setup is as
close as a man can get to money in the bank. Besides actually having
money in the bank.
2) Watch
the sunset - The pulchritude of the fiery twilight heavens
is not only surprisingly affordable, it comes to your town darn
near every night.
3) Jazz
club - Dimly lit cocktail sipping, accompanied by spine-curving
rhythms. Also, Chet Baker is arguably the coolest man ever to grace
the planet.
4) Day
hike - Non-threatening and wholesome; plenty of opportunity
to converse but plenty to look at if you don't. Certain scientists
assert that production of endorphins is conducive to the outbreak
of romance.
5) Concert
in the park - A synergistic admixture of two powerful forces
of nature: musical entertainment and the great outdoors. Any activity
that cries out for blanket-top wine consumption is okay with us.
6) Drive-in
- All the benefits of outdoor cinema coupled with availability of
tasty cheeseburgers; no annoying need to relinquish automotive comfort.
Offer void if you drive a Gremlin.
7) Museum
- It's a leisurely stroll through an architectural palace arrayed
with items of unusual aesthetic merit. Quite similar to the daily
routine of Louis XIV, Sun King of the Bourbon Monarchy, at his personal
Chateaux of Versailles. Unlike Louis, you must pay admission.
8) Gourmet
picnic - For the minimal effort of purchasing lunch, finding
a suitably bucolic setting, and spreading a blanket, you have secured
yourself a few hours of sure-fire romance. Rooftops, coastlines,
and city parks all fit the bill.
9) Theater
- When you take a woman to the theater, you create the impression
- true or otherwise - of expansiveness and savoir faire. Also, you
can put on the best clothes you own without looking like you are
trying too hard. Not only is conversation unnecessary, it's bad
form.
10) Ice
skating - Obligatory hand-holding, crisp frosty air, and
a mutual decrease in motor skill function all add up to one thing.
That's right: lovin' goodness. For best effect, skate on natural
pond ice, or at night under the stars. |
